Overview
Bendy Plywood — 4mm Hardwood Bending Ply for Curves
Bendy plywood is a specialty 4mm hardwood panel built to curve. Its open-grained veneers let the outer face stretch and the inner face compress as the sheet is formed, so it follows a former into arches, curved walls, radiused joinery fronts, counters and shopfitting details that rigid plywood would crack on. Available in short grain and long grain, so you can match the grain direction to the way your curve runs.
Faces are BC grade imported hardwood veneer with a smooth surface that takes paint or stain well. Because the sheets are produced from mixed hardwood timbers, colour can vary noticeably from sheet to sheet — plan on painting, or select and match sheets for stained finishes. Bendy ply is a forming substrate: it's designed to be curved and then finished, laminated or veneered.

FAQ
What's the difference between short grain and long grain?
It's the direction the face grain runs on the sheet. Long grain runs along the 2440mm length, so the sheet curves most easily across its 1220mm width; short grain runs across the sheet, so it curves most easily along the 2440mm length. Pick the grain so your curve bends in the easy direction — if you're unsure, contact us with your radius.
How tight can I bend it?
As a guide, 4mm bendy ply of this type bends to around 270mm diameter (about 135mm radius). Tighter bends can be achieved by wetting the panel or bending a knot-free section, but always test a spare piece first.
Can bendy ply be painted or stained?
Yes. The face is smooth BC grade veneer suited to paint or stain. Colour varies between sheets because mixed hardwoods are used, so paint is the safest finish for consistency.
Why has my sheet bowed?
Plywood reacts to moisture and temperature. Stack sheets flat on a firm, raised base with enough support to prevent sagging, keep them covered, and fasten them to a former or frame as soon as possible.
Is it suitable for outdoor or wet areas?
No — it's an interior, non-structural product with B bond glue. Keep it dry and fully sealed if it's near moisture.
